Learn to sew with Ellen Caleca! This Create & Connect class will span two days, Tues & Wed evening. All supplies included in ticket price, all you need to do is bring 3 yards of the fabric pattern of your choice. You will be making one pair of Unisex Sleepwear pull on pants using Simplicity Easy to Sew Pattern.

Basic skills covered in class:

  • Sewing safety: Proper sewing machine use: threading, speed control, various stitches, troubleshooting
  • Seam construction: Pressing and seam finishes
  • Types of fabrics
  • How to read and use patterns
  • How to select fabrics, thread and needles that are right for the project
  • Fabric preparation
  • How to pin, cut, and mark a pattern How to make an elastic waist band
  • Machine hemming

Sewing machines will be available for use. If you own a sewing machine, please feel free to bring and use it for the class.

Ellen Caleca is a Retired Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. She taught clothing construction during her 35-year teaching career as well as sewing and craft classes for at Joanne Fabric store in NJ for 5 years. She ran the Project Linus monthly “Sewing Bee” and learn-to-sew classes at the Wayne County Public Library.
